In Memoriam
Michael S. Cantor

Max and I were not friends. Not that there was any animosity between us, we just never got to be friends. In fact, Max said all of 7 words to me in 3 years of living in Adams House together. It was the night Lennon was shot. It was very late. I was alone in my suite and there was a knock at the door. It was Max. "Do you have The White Album?," he asked. No introduction, just straight to the point. I went back to my room, and came back with my copy, handing it to him. He said "Thanks," and went away. The next day, he had slid it under my door. That was it. But I'll never forget it, and I'll never forget him.

Max Cantor was soo cool. I worshipped him from afar my first year at Harvard. He was one of the regulars in the smoking room of the freshman dining hall. He wore a scarf and looked like a movie star. It took me about six viewings of Dirty Dancing years later to figure out that he played Robby, the sleazy waiter. I was so sad when I read of his passing.

Max and I were freshpeople together in Pennypacker 1978-1979, and he was a cool New Yorker like me. It is not surprising that he took Lennon's murder hard. Does anyone know how he died?
